Tryouts

May 2026

Players MUST ATTEND AT LEAST ONE of the provided tryouts for their age group and are strongly encouraged to attend all tryouts offered for their desired team so coaches can best assess a players abilities.

*Tryouts are held in May after Spring Season has ended. The calendar below contains upcoming tryouts. Check back regularly for updates.

Age Brackets for 2026-2027

US Soccer has announced a full switch of age brackets from Birth Year (for example ALL players born in 2017 on the same team) to Grade School Year (August 1, 2016-July 31, 2017 is the new year calendar for that same "2017" team from this past year).

You are trying out for the next age from your current season (if you are playing Spring 2026 U8 you are trying out for 2026-27 U9, etc.). However, players born August 1-December 31 have the option to "repeat" the age level (for example if they're 2017 birth year, currently those players would be competing in Spring 2026 U9 and can compete at U9 again for 2026-27 due to the calendar change).

Frequently Asked Questions

1 / What is the time commitment?

We have teams that play in the Timbers/Thorns League out of Oregon and in the WPL (Washington Premier League). Most games are within an hour drive from Longview but some games but can be as far as 4 hours away. Select soccer requires more commitment than recreational soccer due to the fact teams play summer tournaments, fall season and one other season (either winter indoor or spring outdoor). Most teams practice 2 times per week during the league season and teams typically have 1 (sometimes 2) games per weekend.

U9/U10 Teams play ALL of their games at Delta Park in North Portland on Sundays.

2 / What do I wear (and bring) to tryouts?

Full soccer gear (shirt, shorts, soccer socks, shin guards). A water bottle. A soccer ball. A great attitude and the ability to listen to coaches.

3 / What do tryouts look like?

Tryouts vary based on the coaches but for the most part you can expect a more intense/competitive soccer practice, with drills, small sided-games, and full scrimmaging. Coaches are looking for on ball talent, soccer knowledge, field awareness, aggression, and coachability.
